La Capitale d'Été
Summer Festival Baden-Baden
Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto is still sometimes called the "Emperor's Concerto". And worthy of an emperor is the programme of this summer festival, as always with conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who this time will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. The goddess who leans towards the emperor is, as so often with Yannick, the magnificent Joyce DiDonato, who can do everything vocally and stylistically - this time Berlioz, Mahler and Brahms. In between, a man whose piano tone shines like mother-of-pearl: the South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho.

SUMMER GALA
Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Joyce DiDonatoThis Summer Gala is sure to be the talk of the town. The legendary London Symphony Orchestra will do the honors, with our friend Yannick Nézet-Séguin, chief conductor of New York's Metropolitan Opera, leading from the podium. The incomparable "Yankee Diva" Joyce DiDonato will sing orchestral songs by Berlioz, followed by Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony.

YANNICK NÉZET-SÉGUIN & FRIENDS
Joyce DiDonatoIt’s a celebration every time Yannick Nézet-Séguin invites the soloists and musicians of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe to play chamber music together with him. The event has long since established itself as a small but superb island between symphony concerts. The conductor talks to the audience and the whole atmosphere is a bit more relaxed, which also wins over stars like Joyce DiDonato.

EMPEROR CONCERTO
Seong-Jin Cho, Yannick Nézet-SéguinSouth Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho is already a familiar face at the Festspielhaus. Immediately after his triumph in the Warsaw Chopin Competition, he performed with us, filling in at short notice for a sick colleague with Brahms and bringing numerous Korean fans along with him. Cho has an unmistakable tone. A soft glow with a solid core, tailor-made for Beethoven's concertos, two of which the artist will be presenting to us.
